Experiencing Writer's Block
When you’re having a hard time getting started after a break what is your go-to solution? I hadn’t considered that deeply before this past Sunday. I’m always journaling though I’m not always writing creatively. I talked to my dad who recommended Frank Zappa with the warning label “It’s a bit weird.”
It is a bit weird, still something about it motivated me to write creatively. I couldn’t say if it was the trailing-off vocalizations, the production value of the '70s & '80s, or the slew of characters being presented through song. Even though I was offended by the amount of songs over six minutes, the sheer freedom of artistry struck me.
Watching the American Senate discuss rock music and whether or not ratings on albums would be feasible while Frank Zappa makes the case for an artist’s integrity has an almost comical ring from a post-WAP perspective. Things haven’t changed much since then, people are still fighting similar battles.
Most of the time I can blame writer's block on the time of year plus a lack of sun. However, I am starting to think that because I have wanted to take the next steps for some time, I am experiencing writer's block because I haven’t. What better time to restart than the beginning of the year?
The next step for me is to get a website up, so now that I have it published in writing I am held accountable! In the grand scheme of my goals, it’s one step I can take to motivate myself to polish the projects I have on the go and start new ones.
Stay tuned for updates and let me know in the comments: What music motivates you after a break?
